Each picture in this series seeks to visually represent emotions often experienced by victims of abuse. The picture to the far left depicts a beautiful, stable house with a dark tree enveloping part of the structure; the tree represents abuse and its dominance over the house reveals that abuse can happen anywhere, even in a household that seems "perfect" from the outside. The picture in the middle shows an iron gate symbolizing how victims of abuse may feel trapped in their situations with no way out. The final picture to right depicts a hand clutching a yellow leaf against a dark background; the leaf represents the hope that victims of abuse must cling to, despite the awful circumstances in which they find themselves.
Opposite Viewpoint: Greed Collage
The collage above represents another abhorrent situation we experience that is far different from poverty: greed. Through this piece, I wanted to portray the idea that money does not always make life better and can, in fact, make life much worse. When excessive wealth breeds greed, families fall apart and morals are abandoned, which may result in lonely lives devoid of meaning.
